Evaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of XyliFosTM in the Nasal Mucosa
ثبت نشده
چکیده
The nasal cavity is a promising site for drug delivery and intranasal preparations are thus commonly dispensed to treat conditions such as chronic, recurrent or resistant sinus. XyliFos is a proprietary powder excipient used in pharmaceutical compounding for nasal nebulization or nasal and wound irrigation. This study was conducted to evaluate the safety and toxicological profile of XyliFos using the EpiAirwayTM Tissue Model, a three-dimensional (3D) model that resembles the human nasal mucosa. Results have demonstrated that XyliFos is potentially as safe as sterile water for injection since cell viability was greater than 100% for XyliFos at various concentrations (20%, 15% and 10%). XyliFos may therefore be considered a safe powder excipient to be used in compounding when formulating intranasal preparations.

Evaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of MucoLox: Human Oral Mucosa, Nasal Mucosa and Vaginal Mucosa (Part 2/3)
Introduction: The nasal cavity is a promising site for drug delivery as it is easily accessible to patients, has a large surface area (due to the presence of microvilli), contains a thin nasal epithelium, and it can bypass first-pass metabolism [1]. However, many conventional dosage forms (e.g. gels, solutions, suspensions) have low residence time (time at site of action) within the nasal cavit...
متن کاملComparison of Expression of Cytokeratin 7 on Epithelium of Nasal Polyps and Mucosa of Chronic Rhinosinusitis
Background and Objective: Nasal polyp is the most common benign mass of the nasal cavity and it is originated from nasal cavity or sinuses. Cytokeratins (CK) are intermediate filament proteins that provide mechanical support in epithelial cells. The purpose of this study was to compare the expression of cytokeratin 7 in epithelium of nasal polyps and nasal mucosa in chronic rhinosinusitis. Mate...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of MucoLox: Human Oral Mucosa, Nasal Mucosa and Vaginal Mucosa (Part 1/3)
Introduction: The buccal mucosa, which contains non-keratinized epithelial cells lining the inner cheeks of the mouth, is a site for local and systemic delivery of medication. This region is highly vascularized and relatively immobile [1]. Buccal delivery allows for the active ingredients to exert rapid onset of action, bypassing liver first pass-metabolism, and avoiding pH fluctuations and deg...
متن کاملClinical evaluation of safety and complications of the nasal tip defatting in rhinoplasty
Objective: Nasal tip refinement is an important objective in aesthetic rhinoplasty and one of the surgical options for soft tissue management in very thick bulbous skin and subcutaneous noses is tip defatting. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and complications of tip defatting in thick skin and bulbous noses. Methods: Among 527 patients that underwent rhinoplasty in Modar...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of MucoLox: Human Oral Mucosa, Nasal Mucosa and Vaginal Mucosa (Part 3/3)
Introduction: Vaginal delivery of medication is advantageous in allowing for the medication to avoid first-pass metabolism and gastrointestinal degradation [1]. Lined with non-cornified, stratified squamous epithelium, the vaginal mucosa offers a large surface area and rich blood supply, making it a promising site for delivery of medication in the treatment of conditions such as vaginitis (infl...
